XP-100R conversion:35Rem to 358Win?
« on: January 22, 2006, 10:02:40 AM »
I'm wondering about the feasibility of converting a Remington XP-100R
35Rem to 358Win. I already have 358Win brass and dies[plus I can easily make 358Win brass from 308Win/7.62x51 NATO brass].
Is it: feasible?, "ball park cost"?, any ballistic advantage in a 14.5"
 barrel?
Thanks.

Yes it can be done , go to Specialtiy Pistol Fourms there you can find any answers you need. There is a guy Kirby Allen that can do this.

Yes this is doable.. It's a fairly simple rechamber and shouldn't be all that expensive if the reamer is alreay owned by the smith.. As to ballistics I wouldn't really know. I would think you'd have was more capacity than the barrel could use, so it would bevery inefficient and that usually means a whale of a lot of muzzleblast..

Other custom contender and Encore cartridges burn as much or more powder than the 358Win. in the same barrel length.  Probably will gain 250-300 fps in velocity.  I say "GO FOR IT".

Works well.  Rechambered a standard xp-100 years ago to 358win and used it in the sihlouette game.  took down the targets with real authority.  Muzzle blast is pretty fierce, but a full 308 with ball ammo is worse.  Have a muzzle brake on mine.
