30-30 loads in Handi?
« on: January 21, 2006, 01:49:11 PM »
I'm hoping someone will share some good 30-30 loads.

The barrel seems to do good using the Remington factory 150 grain loads, so if anyone knows a duplicate load I'd like to know what it is.

I've got a pretty good stash of Remington bulk 30-caliber bullets, 150, 165 and 180-grain PSPCL.

I have an 8-pound keg of H-4350 and one of H-414 too so loads with those powders would really set me up for some low-dollar plinking.

Thanks in advance!

Those are some pretty slow powders for the .30 WCF

That being the case, I've had Sub MOA groups using 150 Sierra Spitzers with 34 gr IMR 4350, seated almost in the lands. Very slow but accurate in my 22"  1-12 twist NEF  barrel.
 It is a compressed load.

I would suggest getting a pound of one of the following for the .30WCF

 In this order:
W-748 with this powder use CCI 250 primers
 R-15
 Varget
 IMR 3031, 4198, 4320

Start low and work up and follow the published data that is available.
no x now!

heres what i do and it is extremely accurate and deadly on deer
i take a 150 grain 308 diameter hornady balistic tip bullet and load it to the max with 748 powder as per the speer handbook. you can use the same load behind the speer 150 corelok jsp it shoot real good to but the balistic tip carries farther

I've had good success both at the range and on whitetails with the Hornady 130 Spire (#3020, not the one for single shot pistol) and a max IMR book Contender load of 3031.  Avg MV chrono's 2653 fps, best group was .074" at 100.  That compares with the .257 Roberts 120 gr load of old, though the .257 bullet has better sectional density and BC.

I got better velocities (but not by all that much) with 748, H335, and Re7,
but not the same accuracy.  The 125 and 150 Ballistic Tips both shoot well in my Handi also, but I'm going to stick with the more accurate load and cheaper bullet until I've had a chance to see what it does on another deer or two.
