300 WSM
« on: January 03, 2006, 05:07:21 AM »
Just wondering if people think Barnes 140 gr xbt are too light for Whitetails out of a 300 WSM?  Didn't know if they would not perform correctly at the speeds it would be pushed from that round.

I have close to a dozen different bullets I could try but want to load from 140-168 gr loads.

Options would be:

140 gr Barnes XBT
150 gr Accu-bonds, BT's, Partitions, Grand Slams, SST's, Interbonds,
165 gr BT's, SST's, Partitions, Interlocks

Or a bunch more if I really think about it.  I think I'm going to need some more brass.

A friend of mine really likes bullets around 165 grains in his 300 WSM.  He worked up a load for the partition with H4350.

Good Luck,

The 140 gr Barnes should work just fine in the 300wsm. They tend to expand better at high velocities and should hold together well for whitetails and mule deer too for all that matter.

Thanks for the responses, I'm going to work with the 140 gr XBT and the 150 gr Accubonds first and go if neither of those work I'll try the 165 grain BT's or Hornady SSt's.

My experience with the 300 WSM had been with the 165 gr and up.  The performance to date had been with the 165 Gameking.  But you should shoot what you feel comfortable with and harvest lots of tasty deer meat.
