I was looking around on www.impactguns.com and found an intresting looking mount for contender barrels. Solid looking, with the rings and bases all one piece that attact directly to the barrel. But then I saw "no drilling and tapping required." Does this mean that it replaces the rear sight? So it is compatible with all contender barrels (aside from the .410 of course)? Any one out there use this mount?

That is TC's DUO-RING mount. If you are like most people you won't like it. It leaves you no room for for/aft positioning of the scope. It also mounts the scope way too high in my opinion. I tried one once and found it unusable. KN

I prefer a standard base instead of the duo mount. You can place the rings where you want them, add more or less rings, and change the height of each ring. My absolute favorite, thought, is the Burris dual dovetail mount. Very strong and looks good too.

I found that it was very heavy which just added to the impact from hard kicking handguns. I prefer a standard weaver base with Burris signature "z" rings. Other rings hold well, but these have protected my scopes better than any others.

Thanks for the imput guys.....guess I'll have my .30-30 barrel drilled and tapped and just go with a traditional mount. Thanks again.

Before you get out the drill, scope bases for the Contender have a hole pattern to match the rear sight. Remove the sight, mount the base and such and you are ready to rock and roll.

If you have never mounted a scope perhaps you may wish to have a smith do it, or find a friend to help you. It isn't hard, but is a little fussy. Care at this point will save you trouble later.

Mounted plenty of scopes just never on my contender. Glad to know the bases use the same pattern as the rear sight.....thanks.
