Santa brought me a 22-250 barrel for my Encore. WHat would be a good scope for it and a starting selection for ammunition.

What will you use the rifle for?  If long range varmints are in your future, then a variable scope with a max magnification between 12 and 18 should fill the bill for about any reasonable use.  Higher magnifications are very often not usable in the field due to mirrage or a poor rest.  Get the best scope you can afford - a used Leupold or Burris is far better than a new BSA, etc.

The classic load for the .22-250 is a 55-grain bullet, but there are many choices.  For the longer ranges the 55s work well, but many shooters like the newer 40-grain speedsters.  The latter shoot as flat and drift the same as the 55s out to 400 yards.   What really matters is what load shoots the most accurately in your rifle.   :D

I have an 2.5X10X56mm IOR Valdada Scope on my Encore 22-250. I don't see the need for anymore power for my needs. 300 to 400 yards not a problem with varmints or targets.  The also have a nice varmint scope, site's listed below. :D

I have never fired factory ammunition in my .22-250 Encore 26" heavy barrel.  It LOVES 55 gr Nosler BTs over RL-15, so that's what I feed it.

The gun will be used for predator hunting in instances where a long shot is possible and just for shooting.

I have bought a box of the Winchester white box rounds for it and am trying to decide on a scope and some more types of ammo to try.

Simmons 44 Mag and Whitetail 6.5 x 20 are excellent scopes for $100, Have them on a 223, 204, and 22-250.

I have had 2 of them. The Rem. bull  was very fussy, but the Rem bolt sporter didn't seem to care what powder was used. The Rem. bull barrel only liked Imr 4064 and H 414. Sierra and Hornandy were the best for me in 55gr bullets

Also, get a darn good scope. A luepold or Burris. I had a 6-20 Luepold but it's not a must. My sporter had a 4-12 luepold. Most important is quality scopes. And you will probably never shake the insides loose with the mild kick.
