.44 or .45 caliber pistol bullets in sabots?
« on: December 18, 2005, 01:14:46 PM »
I am going to buy some Hornady XTP bullets in bulk along with some sabots. Should I get the 44 or 45 caliber XTPs with the corresponding sabots? Is their an advantage of either?

Go for the .45.  Gives you a bigger hole.

THE HORNADY 45 CAL. MAY GIVE YOU PROBLEMS IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE THEM IN A T/C SIDELOCK.
I HAVE FOUND IN T/C THE 44 CAL. LOAD THE BEST SEEM THE 451 AND 452 DIAMETER BULLET AFTER THE FIRST SHOT ARE HARD GOING DOWN THE BARREL. :D

I would buy one package of each and see what works best in the rifle. Like Lonewolf, I have had trouble getting the .45 cal XTP down the barrel of my T/C, in this case an Omega. The .44 cal XTP will seat even after multiple shots. Both grouped the same.     :D

I would try them both, I can't get a .45 down my CVA without a sledge hammer but the .44 slide in like they were in butter.

I used to shoot the 44s...Still haven't killed more deer with any other bullet.  Flawless performance.

I  use T/C Mag Sabots 45 cal. 240 grain XTP's with 100 gr. 777 (pellets) in my 50 cal. Omega and it groups awesome.  I have no problem loading a second or 3rd. or 4th shot. I run a spit patch after each shot. Every gun shoots differently.

You need to try both because it depends on the individual gun and how much powder you are using.  The 44 loads 10 times easier than the 45 in my Encores and the accuracy is the same.  I have a friend who cannot shoot  the 44's in his Encore because they keyhole.

The 44 is not a high pressure sabot and the 45 is.  If you are dumping 150 grains of powder down the barrel the 45 might be needed.  I only shoot 80grs of 777 in mine since anything I have shot has been plenty dead with that.  I have shot mine with 100grs of 777 and had good accuracy.

When I shot the Hornadys in my Encore, I was using the 44 cal bullets. I never had a problem with loading. Now I am shooting the 195 gr. precession rifle DC sabots.  :D

MMP HPH Sabots?
« Reply #9 on: January 19, 2006, 07:29:00 AM »
I've had the same problem with tight loading with the .451 bullets, but I've ordered the HPH MMP sabots (.002) smaller to see if they would make a significant difference.  Anyone already tried this?
