Hey guys I am new here on the forum and I thought I would just give you guys a little information about myself. My names Cody I am 16 years old, don't have a drivers license yet so I trap pretty close to town. I live up in Northern Missouri right on the Harrison County/Davies County line. I have been trapping for 22 days now, just started the day before Christmas.

My main focus is raccoons, because its the easiest thing to trap in my area since I don't have a vehicle. I have trapped out the only pond around that had muskrat and alltogether since I have been trapping I have caught 3 muskrats and 4 coons. I am very proud of all of them, because every one of them I caught 100% on my own.

Every Friday I pull my traps and head up to Blythedale Missouri about 30 miles North and stay at my Aunt and Uncles until Sunday Night. I set my traps on Saturday and check and pull them the next day and come back home. The reason I do this is because there is a big creek there within walking distance. Right now I own four 1 1/2" Coilspring Dukes, eight 110 Conibear Dukes, and one 330 Conibear Dukes.

I would really like to catch my first mink and beaver, but I don't really know where to start. I heard that mink are hard to come around up here, but I thought I might have a little luck on the big creek in Blythedale if I knew a little about trapping them. I also see what I think might be beaver dams on the creek, but I don't know how to trap them so I wouldn't even know where to set my 330. I don't really have anyone down here to show me so I thought maybe you guys could help me.

If you would that would be great. I joined this forum to learn about trapping and to make some new friends and just so I have trappers to talk to since there aren't very many where I live.

Welcome Cody, glad to have you with us.I have trapped in your state before.I also have a lot of friends and customers in mo.
I would strongly suggest that you join the Missouri Trappers Association,Ralph Kelsick is the president (573)593-4796.He will be able to tell you what district you are in.The association has several fur sales every year.If you attend their convention, you can usually catch a beaver dem ,given by yours truly.
If you look at the post on castor mound photos,you will see a picture of how I set for beaver.Now in Missouri, your 330 must be totally submerged.I set the trap exactly the same as in the photo when totally submerged--except it is entirely covered by water.
As your questions arise we will try to answer them.

When you guys talk about these castor mound sets, do you find the mounds then put ur lure on the mound, or do you guys make your own mounds? Just wondoring and if you guys do find the mounds what do they look like and where do i find them and if you guys make your own, then how do i make them?

I make my own mounds instead of finding them. Works real well with Bogmasters beaver lure.

Beaver mounds or castor mounds are where the beaver piles up mud and leaves on the bank and places castor on it to mark its territory and to let other beavers know its there. If you have some castor lure you can just smear some on a stick and jab it into the ground at the waters edge and place a trap close to it so a beaver will have to cross over the trap to get to the lure. Or you can scrape some mud and leaves into a pile and place you castor lure on the pile and guard it like before. Some guys will make a castor mound close to another castor mound that a beaver has made and guard both with a trap at each mound. Thats about all I know on the subject, I'm sure boggy can give you the real story a lot better. Worm

Yeah the only problom is I don't got no darn beaver lure and there is no way I can get none tomorrow before I leave. Anyone know how to catch a beaver with a 330 if you dont have no gosh darn beaver lure? lol Next time I go sell fur i'll be sure to get me some. I am really gonna start focussing on beaver trapping here within the next month becuz thats the only season thats gonna be left open. So I need to stock up on my beaver supplies and learn how to catch beaver. Man I dont know what i'd do if I didnt have this forum.

There are sets for 330s without a good lure.Dam crossovers are very good spot---with your total submersion law--set at the bottom side of the crossover.
You have a while left on your beaver season,and prices are on the rise.
If you need beaver supplies,let me know.

I would buy them off you tom, but I don't got no credit card and it would be easier to buy it up here, but somtime I will try and get some of your lure as I here it is good.
