NEF 243 sighting in different ammo
« on: January 20, 2006, 05:24:52 PM »
I need some help with this.  I have a 1 1/2 year old 243 regular barrel, SB2 reciever rifle. I have shot 150-200 rounds total through the gun. I had used some Rem 105g. extented range ammo for hunting this fall and killed 2 deer with it. I want to take my son coyote hunting now so I bought some federal Prem V-Shok 70g Nosler Ballistic tip. I also got some Federal Power-Shok 100g figuring to use them for deer again. The following shots were all at 100 yards. When I first shot the Fed 100g the group was tight but 5 inches high! After adjusting and getting a nice group I switched to the fed 70g and I was 5 inches high again. After adjusting again and getting a nice group I cleaned the gun.  I then fired 3 fouling shots using the old 105's just to get rid of them. The first may have been a flyer or just too low, but the second and third were 1 inch apart but 8 inches low!  I realize different brands and types of bullets behave differently and that lighter bullets are faster and fall less but 8 inches at 100 yards?
