Question on Remington 7400 loading method
« on: January 03, 2006, 04:55:26 PM »
I'm thinking about acquiring a 7400 and have a question on the loading method. Is there a way to modify the magazine so that the mag can be full and the chamber empty and still quickly get a round into battery? I notice the aftermarket magazines don't have the bolt hold open feature and wonder if it's the same method as the factory or does it work like a normal semi auto would.

Thanks

I'm not sure if this is what you're asking, but if you close the bolt and insert a full mag, then you'd have a full magazine and an empty chamber. Then just pull the operating lug when you want to put a round in the chamber.

Hmmm. Wonder why the instruction manual and articles that I have read said the mag has to be empty, one round inserted into the chamber, close the bolt, remove mag and add rounds and then re-insert.

The magazines you're looking at may be intended for the 7600 instead of the 7400.  The 7400 magazines have the bolt hold open feature and the 7600 magazines do not.  Dropping one round in and closing the bolt and then topping off the magazine just allows you to have one more round in the rifle.
