I just bought a LBT mold and I want to know any maintenance (lubing, cleaning, etc.) to make it last and perform its best.

If you bought it from LBT it should have had complete instructions and a stick of mold lube.  If we left those items out let me know at my email address and we'll send them                    LBTisAccuracy@Imbris.net.

If you bought it from someone else the instructions are simple enough.  Get it hot enough to cast perfect bullets.  Dip the bottom forward corner in the melt for a few seconds till the bullets fill out perfectly.  When ever the sprue plate begins to show stiffness when opening and closing, while hot, use a touch of the mold lube stick at any spot that is dragging and at the same time touch both alignment pins.  You don't need to ever clean it unless it get's trashed up so the blocks don't close completely, or if you somehow get trash stuck in the cavities.  Close the sprue plate gently enough that it makes little sound.  If you whack it shut you'll batter the plate where it hits the stop pin and cause it to score the top of the mold, or the stop pin/hold down finger can actually be knocked loose by cracking it shut with your sprue knocker a bit too frisky.  If the hold down finger doesn't have enough tension to keep the sprue plate laying flat, tap the finger itself so it bends down slightly and just applies enough pressure to keep the plate flat.  If the finger gets broke off it is from pouring lead over it and knocking the sprue with the lead hard.  If you get some over it, wait till the sprue hardenes, then run a stgream of lead over the holddown finger till the lead is melted off before opening the sprue plate.  If you break the hold down finger, purchase a replacement from LBT.         It will last the rest of your like if you don't beat it up.
