Howdy

,

I was wondering if anybody knows of any downloadable ballistics programs, I have Remingtons Shoot (free version) but have found that it does not support some of the ammo that I am interested in. I am looking for free downloads as I am just a lowly Land Surveyor and cant afford to buy one right now (trying to save some money for a new rifle :-) ).

I too am a lowly Land Surveyor. I therefore have lots of experience with all things cheap (errr...efficient :lol: )

Try http://www.snipercountry.com/ballistics/ and PCB 1.8. IIRC it was written by a student. It runs in a DOS window, but all the flash and sparkle of a windows program doesn't change the underlying mathematics. Not to take anything away from Pointblank. It very nice as well.

When you hit the big survey payday (yeah right) try RCBS load. Very nice for paid software.

Another Land Surveyor here. I use Pointblank also, but mostly I don't worry about the balistics too much. As long as I get a nice, tight group at 100 yards, at a decent velocity I am happy. Then it becomes a matter of shooting at various distances to see where the bullet is hitting. The balistics programs can give a good idea, but nothing beats actual field time. Sort of like looking for that elusive corner monument which your calculations say should be right here but experience tells you it probably isn't....

You've got it WinterHawk. The calcs tell you where to begin to look.

Ballistic tables and proggies are great tools but nothing beats seeing holes in paper at your hunting ranges.
