250 grain Barnes bullets in 45/70 ????
« on: February 01, 2006, 06:07:42 AM »
I picked up 2 boxes of these and can't find any load data for them.
My barnes manual doesn't list them.
I need data or will 300 data be ok???
I'm using a super 16"/45-70 contender.  thanks,craig.

The only online data that I've seen is for the 1895 and Ruger at Realguns.com and from what I've read, that would be too hot for the contender. The 45-70 Loadbook has 250gr XFN data at trapdoor levels...

If you email Barnes they'll send you some data.

If you're gonna use barnes bullets in a contender, be very careful of pressures.  Especially if it is a barnes X bullet.  According to the techs at T/C the contender should be kept at under 24000 cup.
