load help for Buff Classic 45/70
« on: April 15, 2006, 10:19:04 AM »
I`m a little confused on the load data thing. I have three different catagories. 1. Trapdoor Rifles 2. Lever Action Rifles 3. Modern Rifles -( Ruger no.1 and no. 3 single shots, Browning 1895 single shot and modern bolt action rifles ) Which one falls under my rifle ? H&R Buffalo Classic 45/70 :D

Also I want to say hey and thanks to the new forum. I enjoy shooting and hunting and fishing. I also reload for my handguns and rifles. I look forward to learning some new things from you folks and will do anything to help you - just ask.

The BC is a modern rifle, and although I don't think it's quite as strong as a Ruger #1-#3, or a bolt action, it defintely able to take any modern factory ammo without a problem. The same action is chambered in some extremely high pressure rounds, and seems to perform fine.
I wouldn't hesitate to load it to info for the Ruger. Of course you should take the same precautions you would use in reloading for any gun, and not start above midrange loads.
I think you'll find your shoulder will give out before the gun does. The BC is not exactly a heavy gun, and I thought mine was a little brutal with heavy loads!
Be careful, and you wont have a problem.

Welcome aboard!! :D  Do yourself a favor and browse the NEF/H&R Centerfire forum, lots of info on the BC that you'll appreciate including load data and lots of range reports. Be sure to read the info in the FAQ and Help sticky, too!!

First off welcome, second keep your loads in the  Trapdoor Rifles & Lever Action Rifle load data. Even the Lever actions loads will thump you. I have taken a lot of game with the trapdoor lever rounds. The facotry 45-70 rounds are in the  trapdoor level. Garrett and buffalo bore make them hard kickers.   :D
