Something is causing the bolt on my M1 to hang up the last 1/2" before it closes with a cartridge.  I don't see any rubmarks.  Any ideas what I can do or any tips on M1 magazine problems?  Thanks.

hiram - first make certain the bolt operates freely without the magazine inserted.  Then insert an empty mag and see if the bolt travels all the way to the rear and locks open on the empty mag.  Then begin loading one round at a time until the mag is full and operate the bolt each time.  Some of those springs are really tough and may force the round up against the bottom of the bolt freezing it in place.  If this is the case, just get yourself a whole bunch of surplus mags.  I forget if the have coil springs or not but you may wish to look at the spring in your current magazine to determine if it is inserted properly before you go to purchase additional mags.  HTH.  Mikey.

You didn't say but was this occuring when the rifle is fired or just the bolt released over a loaded mag. Have you tried other mags? Is the groove on the opprod and the cam on the bolt properly lubricated? Without grease they can bind and slow the bolt. Is the gas tap clean and open? check for a damaged extractor and a cracked lug on the bolt.. Clean the gas sysem piston/nut/cylinder and port.  As always when a box magazine gun fails the magazine is always suspect, next check is for a dirty mechanism..
