what is the estimated expence of converting a 22lr to a mag? is it fessable?

That would be totaly dependant on the gun you were trying to convert.  KN

I dont think it would be cost effective on a repeater but I could be wrong.  I believe the bore size is different so for one to work well a new barrel is in order, and in most cases by the time you would be done it would be more money than buying another gun.  Which I for one really like to do anyway.

First of all the 22 mag's bore is a true .224 the 22lr is a bit smaller not sure off hand if it is .223 or .222 that is why in convertable guns like the Ruger Single Six the bore is 224 for the magnum chambering and they expect the 22 lr to obtrude in the barrel to get decent accuracy. If you do not know what I meant by obtrude it means that the bullet is forming to the bore by the pressure of the bullet being fired. This works with 22LR and certain muzzle loader bullets due to the soft lead used. So the barrel would have to be replaced and rechambered. IF the gun was a old single shot like a rolling block or falling block I suppose it would be possible. To be honest 22 mag rifles are not that expensive,  if you got a NEF Handi rifle in 22 mag. or a good used 22 mag of some other configuration and brand if money is a concern.  New yea they cost more than the 22 lr. They also cost more to shoot. Not sure why you want to try to convert one over but it probably would cost more if you can do it than what it is worth. Just look a new or used one depending on what you can afford.
