Used Sig....Is it wore out?
« on: February 01, 2006, 04:09:28 AM »
A friend of mine wants to sell me his Sig 228 9mm.  It is less than a year old and looks to be in immaculate shape.  Only wants $400 for it.

But, he has shot it quite a bit.  Claims that he has probably put 5000 rounds through it.

Is it wore out?  How much barrel life is left in the gun???

Take it to a gunsmith and have him check it out. But I doubt it is worn out.  :D

 Super deal, go for it. My Sig is more than several years old and probably has had a like number of rounds thru it. Functions better than new.

The top end of a SIG is very easy to remove. Your friend should have no problem with taking the top end off so you can examine the bore for wear, and the slide and frame for signs of battering.

If that looks good and the trigger pull seems good, then it's probably OK.

muz,
That Sig has more life left in it than you do. Modern firearms last several generations with minimal care. Keep it cleaned and lubed, then shoot it as much as you can afford! Sounds like a reasonable price to me.

SIG makes a quality firearm...I would take it to a smith and have it checked out...You never know.  Seems like a good deal though...

Sounds like your friend is making a gift to you.  Almost sounds too good to be true, I'd let a smith look at it.  If it has had just normal care, and hasn't been damaged from some kind of rediculous hand loads, it's FAR from being worn out.
