6.5 JDJ Pet Loads
« on: January 23, 2006, 02:56:36 PM »
Guys,

I am expecting a used SSK barrel in 6.5 JDJ this week along with the dies. Does anyone have any pet loads they could share.
I am going to start off with the Nosler 120 gr BT but would like to also play around with 100 gr BT's for varmits.

Thank you for any help offered.

Regards,

I use the 85 grain Sierra in my 6.5 jdj for varmints and the 120 sierra for deer. H322,IMR 4350 & 4320 are good powders. My best loads are with IMR 4064/cci 250 primers .C.O.L is 2.700 for 120's and 2.555 for the 85 hp's. IN MY GUN 37.5 gr gave sub inch groups @ 100 yards with the 85's! While 34.5 gave me half inch groups at the same range with 120's. I have a 2.5to 8x Leupold scope on it(14" barrel, ported). I urge you to start low and work up as I can NOT be responsible for YOUR barrel. Yes I used sand bags to get these groups.NOT once but several groups were shot for that average.Needless to say I think you will be happy with your 6.5jdj.

You may find a load sheet in with your dies---if not, call  SSK and order a load sheet--or look in Nosler and Speer load books for data----good loads there---never found an INaccurate load yet!---Just watch your headspace when forming the neck and fireforming brass. pg

To jhalcott, I think I may be interested in a 6.5 JDJ, what can you tell me about it?  What do you think is the maximum effective range on whitetails with the 120s and how is the recoil? I've heard it's very mild.  Anything you might share would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve
