Handi Rifle in 7.62x39 - any reports from those who have one
« on: January 26, 2006, 05:11:11 PM »
I have two other rifles chambered in 7.62x39, so I have a lot of cheap ammo in my cabinet.  I've been thinking about a Handi in 7.62x39, but I have not heard much about them.  Do any of you guys have one?  Was that barrel a heavy barrel or regular contour?  Did it have a scope rail or rifle sights?  How does the cheap 7.62x39 ammo shoot in this rifle?

Thanks

Don't have one and can't get the search to work, but reports have been that milsurp ammo has lots of failures to fire due to hard primers. Kinda negates the Handi-ness of the caliber if cheap ammo can't be shot in it. :(

Thanks for the fast reply quickdtoo.  I couldn't get the search to work tonight either.  I honestly would have never thought about that.  If I had to buy boxer primed, brass cased ammo to shoot in it I might as well get a Handi in a caliber that I don't already have.

I guess I'll just have to run all of that cheap ammo through my WASR10 and my Yugo SKS.  I just thought that since I had all of that cheap ammo around, a Handi rifle would be a fun way to keep shooting while the barrels on my other rifles were cooling off.

just get a stiffer spring and it should do fine with those "hard" primers....

Just tried to get a 7.62 x 39 barrel fitted to my action, but the lady said that it has to be a 95 or later action to fit this barrel.  Mine was a 94, so I was SOL.  Had a bunch of the brass cased Cheetah ammo I was wanting to shoot in it.  Oh well, got a 357 barrel that I will rechamber to 357max.

rockrat, do you want to get rid of that Cheetah ammo?  I bought some a while back and I'd like to get some more, but nobody is importing it now.

Thanks
