165 gr bb swc ?
« on: January 30, 2006, 10:52:04 AM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does any one have a load for the 165 grain bevel based swc bullet in the 45 acp? I have found a few but they are faster than I'd hoped to shoot thru my gun(bullseye and unique @ 1100+FPS) .I was hoping for a load under 1000fps or even 850 to 950 fps. I'm looking for a reduced recoil load for a fire arms training class. Functioning of the slide is not important as each student will get only ONE shot. Any and all help will be appreciated!

With Bullseye you can safely reduce the charge. Try dropping it half a grain and see what you get. If I were doing a load like this, I'd start with a 185 grain target load of 3.9 grains of Bullseye and see what my velocity is. I'd then adjust based on velocity and whether the gun cycles.

(You got those loads from the Lyman manual, didn't you? I used their data and got wildly higher velocities than they published. I don't use that book any more.)

questor I got the loads of the web actually. I got the mold for this bullet for free and thought it might be a good light bullet for a training load. When \i was in the service in the 60's we shot a 160/165 swc in the 45 for target work. They were NOT designed for combat and the guns were worked over to use the light loads.Different springs ,sights, etc.!
