while i own 2 monarchs, which i like very much, i'm considering trying a leupold on my .300wsm. never owned one before. just wanting see how the 2 models compare to each other. the scopes i'm considering are the nikon monarrch ucc 5.5-16.5, 44mm & the leupold vx-II 4.5-14, 40mmAO.

Both are excellent scopes. The Monarch is a better value, though. It costs less and has better optics.

You should know that the Leupold VX-II, however, has longer eye relief, which could be worth spending the extra money given that you want to mount it on a .300WSM.

Why would you want so much power and such a large scope on a .300 rifle? IF you have to go with such high power, the lupey would be a better choice. The Leupolds are smaller and lighter across the board. WDO

Although I have no experience with the VXII in the field. I have been trying to determine the difference between the VXIII, Monarch, and Conquest. It seems Zeiss has the best optics. However Nikon is very close and a less expensive. The Leupold VX series seems to have more of a yellowish tint and not quite as crisp aroung the edges in my opinion. If your willing to spend the $$$$. Swarovski AV series would be my choice.

I have a Leupold vx 11 and 111,Monarch and a Zeiss Conquest.The Leupold VX11 isnt in the same class with the conquest or monarch,but is a very good scope.if you add the VX111 to the line up I would chose the VX 111. Overall its the best scope I'v seen,The conquest would be the second(very close) choice.The Leupold VX111 has it all,quick to picture.repeatability,eye relief,general view,and good light transmission.The Zeiss has better glass,but the leupold is quicker on target.The VX 11 is a good scope and wont let you down.
