Just bought a Project gun. It is a 32 cal muzzle loading barrel altered to fit a Stevens Favorite action. Hammer has been altered to strike the nipple with a shroud fitted on it to protect you from flying cap metal. The barrel is a CVA 32 cal "Squirrel Rifle" barrel. The bore is clean except for a few places that look like tool marks maybe origionally and that the barrel may have not been cleaned properly so they got pitted. The bore is bright and clean looking except for these few streaks in the barrel these almost look like in a line in some places. I am guessing that it should not affect accuracy that much as 95% of the bore looks good. What do you guys think? I have to make a breech plug for it and I was wondering the barrel looks like 3/4. Do the Spanish barrels use a metric thread or a standard one? I posted this here as I would guess this is a round ball barrel and would like to get it shooting but do not want to invest the time messing with it if I do not have something that does not shoot fairly well. Like I said except for the few pit streaks the barrel looks good and bright. Bought the gun as is for 25 bucks that included the barrel with no sights just the dovetails and that action and a stock no forarm either but that should not be dificult. What do you guys think? Jim

Well found a bolt to fit for the breech plug. It is not metric but American and fine thread. Do not remember what the size was. Now just to drill out the center on a lathe and tap for 1/4x28. So evidently the Spanish used American standard threads on these.

Well from the size of the bolt for the breech plug I think it is 5/16 a standard 1/4 x28 nipple will never work too big once drilled and tapped if you could tap it all that would be left would be a very thin wall of threads. Fortunately they make a Nipple for the Ruger Old Army Pistol that is 12x28. I will check that nipple out tomorrow and see how it will work with the 5/16 th bolt. Should be fine as pistol nipples are smaller than standard size 1/4 x28 rifle nipples.

May try a patched jag with a good polish such as simichrome to help with the pitting. Run the pacth through trom the breech. Remove it after each pass. After ten passes or so start to run clean dry patches through until the "black" is gone and they start too come out clean. After one cycle take another look. Sure makes cleaning after use much easer.
