Simple question on #1's
« on: January 27, 2006, 01:19:13 PM »
I have a stock refinishing project to do on one of my favorite hunting rifles. However since I have never stripped the hardward off a Ruger #1, I do not know how to get the steel grip cap off the butt stock without destroying it. The blueing on this rifle is in really great shape so I am not interested in a trip to the smith for any re-blueing.

Can someone please tell me how to remove the grip cap and keep it 100%?

Is there a screw under the ruger emblem? Does the emblem come out somehow to reveal a screw? Is the emblem glued in? How does the emblem come out if there is a screw under there? I don't want to trash the emblem either....

I need to get going on 40 to 50 coats of oil before too long. PLEASE help me out or point me to someone who knows. Thank you.

Check out the diagram on pg 9----they show a screw in the grip cap.

Yes it does.... thank you, I don't have the manual on this rifle.

Now.....how does the little gold colored ruger emblem come out with out wrecking it? Anyone know?

Seems some judicious prying with an exacto knife and some solvent to back it up would work.

Lighter fluid maybe???
