Author Topic: Ok, dumb question on the 1911 safety :) (Read 604 times)

I've got a 1911 that I built from parts a while back. Overall it functions great (and is my most accurate handgun), but I'm wondering if the safety is working 100% (just to be clear I'm talking about the thumb safety. the grip safety is good to go).

When the hammer is cocked, it slides up and locks the hammer/slide and is very reliable. No problems there. When the gun is uncocked though, should the safety lever still be able to lock the slide closed & the hammer in the fallen position? Mine doesn't, but I'm not sure if this is correct or incorrect behaviour. Thanks.

none of mine was able to go back up when decocked.

MG - nope, the pistol is alright and the safety functions properly. The design of the slide safety on 1911/1911A1 will not allow it to be engaged when the hammer is not cocked, so you cannot lock the slide with the slide safety when the pistol is not cocked. All be well.

And btw - if that 45 you put together is your most accurate then congradulations, you have done a good job and you should be proud of your accomplishment. I hope you have fun with that gun and that it serves ya well. Mikey.
