Value or this handgun

I have a 3" ruger SP101 in 9mm. I am thinking about trading this off for a 1911  what would be a fair price. It is in exalent shape with hard plastic box paper work and something like 20 moon clipss

I would definitely try to trade or sell outright. Gun shops, while great to shop in, do not generally offer much for buying used guns.  (Also the extra moon clips are of little value to the gun shop unfortunately, but may attract a potential buyer somewhat).  I don't know what make or model 1911 you are looking for, but you most likely will have to add a little or more of your own cash.  Used Ruger guns like yours, while of excellent quality, rarely bring premium prices.  Off the top of my head, I'd say try to get $400.00.  You'll most likely be offered somewhat less.

I paid $379 for a NIB .357 less than a year ago---not sure if the 9mm brings a premium or not-----trading at a gunshop will get you about $200---selling it private will bring $300 or so ---I would think.

rickup.

Omaha-Beenglockin has it about right and since its in 9mm its going to be harder to trade off. If you take it to a gun shop they are going to stick it to ya, Best find some one you can trade with and its still going to set you back a bunch of bucks depending on which 1911 you are looking for even if your 101 is in exellent condition. Good luck to ya sir :D ........Joe.......

I would like something like a norinko 1911 nothing fancy just a normal  mil spec.
I would think how rare a 9mm revolver is would add to value. you do not need the moon clips to fire this but it helps to remove the spent cases.

Take a trip over to the Ruger forum. Those folks love the 9mm SP-101s. They bring more than a 357 mag. See http://www.rugerforum.com
