2 K-9 Sets

Well today I got some fox lure. I went out to a cornfield where I know fox are likely to be. There is a trail through tall grass running through the field dividing it into two fields. On  the one side of the field about 30 yards out from the trail I layed out two logs probally 10 yards away from eachother. I put some of the lure in one spot on each log and set my 1 1/2" Coilsprings about 6 in front of the lure. Covered them up pretty good can't tell the traps are there. In the end I thought they looked like some pretty good flat sets. Thing is if a coyote comes by. Is there any chance of a 1 1/2" Coilspring getting him. They are like 30" stakes. J/W thanks Cody.

Sounds like the sets will definitly get some attention, but you need to understand that a 1 1/2 isn't a coyote trap. When making a set like that you need to use the strongest trap you can. I have held coyotes in 1 1/2 coils, but that was only because the trap was beefed up and the coyote couldn't get any leverage to pull out of the trap. 1 3/4, 2's and 3's are your best bet for coyotes. Of course 3's are a little to big for fox, but they will work.  Hope this helps, Worm.

Thanks worm. I checked my traps today and it didn't look like anything noticed them. Nothing was changed at my sets, but I found some fresh fox tracks at a pond that the trail leads to about 100 yards away from my traps. So I imagine it will only be time before I get it.

Which direction is the prevailing wind blowing? You want your lure smells to blow in the direction of the sign or even better, set up on the sign itself. Some lures can really draw in the animals, but your best bet is to make your sets as close to the animal sign as possible. Another good draw is to have some sort of visual lure at your set. This can be the log you mentioned earlier or as subtle as a sun bleached bone with lure on it. Good luck, Worm.
