I took the NRA Basic Pistol course today at a local gun shop and firing range.  It was great but thats not the point of this message.  Whle there I heard a 6 1/2 inch barreled blued Single Six with both the LR and Mag cylinders calling my name.  On Monday the waiting period is up and I can pick it up.  I can hardly wait!  The bees are going to catch it this spring!

Congrats!

I just picked one up blued 5.5" used on Wednesday.  In MI, you can get a purchase permit, but then gun, then get the saftey inspection to make everything legal all in one day.  That's just what I did.  Luckily, the gun shop and the sheriff's office are only 15m apart!  I had time to put a few cylinders through it before it got dark.  This was all in one afternoon.

Tomorrow I plan on really giving it a workout.  My main goal is to bet to be a better pistol shot so that I can improve with my 6.5" Blackhawk in .41 Mag but it might see duty on woodchucks and squirrels if I can get good enough with it.

If you have a chance to take the NRA Basic Pistol course you might want to think about that.  I like pistols, but was a pretty poor shot.  The class is just what the  name implies: a basic course.  My groups at 5 yards dropped by at least 2/3ds, and with practice of the new skills should get even smaller.  There may be hope yet.  And the new SS will put some fun into it for me.  I have a Browning Buckmark and some centerfire pistols as well that just may get new life!

Some training would probably be a good investment for me.  I'll have to look out for a class.

Put some ammo through my single-six today.  Was able to shoot 2" groups off an improvised bench at 25y with CCI Mini-Mag HP in 22 LR.  Not quite as well with some old Winchester Wildcats.

congrats on your single six!  Great choice.  I picked mine up used the day I got my permit 12 years ago.  It shoots straight and is a great training gun and fun to shoot.  Like all .22 rimfires, you may need to experiment to see what loads shoot best.  Mine likes the cheap bulk Federals from Wal-Mart.

It did not shoot as well as my shooting buddy's Walther auto, so I bought the Mark III Hunter and have been shooting rings around him ever since.  (Just beware, this firearm fetish can get expensive!)

I've been having a great time with my new SS!  Good accuracy with the LR cylinder.  I'm getting <2" @25 yards with cheap Rem Thunderbolts and CCI mini-mags.  

I haven't had any luck with the magnum cylinder.  I've tried CCI 40gr and Win 40gr.  Around 4-5" @25 yards.  I thought the magnum cylinder was supposed to be more accurate?  Oh well, I bought it for cheaper shooting anyway.

I was able to take a squirrel with the LR cylinder the other day.  About 10 yards:

I got to shoot my single six today for the first time, and the Long Rifle cylinder is a shooter.  Easy groups at 7 yards.  The only mag ammo I had was some Remington Premiers that splattered all over the target.  I bought a box of Winchester hollowpoints, and they did much better.  Groups around a third bigger than the LR, but would do well for hunting if up close.

I am well pleased.  Now to get some shotshells and wait for the bees!

JUST BOUGHT A .17HMR 7 1/2" NEW SS VAQUERO ON SAT. :-)  CANT WAIT TO GET TO THE RANGE. ANYONE ELSE HAVE THE .17HMR????????

There was a used SS in 17HMR when I got my .22.  I thought about it but have a 14" Contender in 17HMR so got the .22.

What do you plan to do with yours?  The 17HMR is great at distance, but in my case I don't think iron sights and a pistol barrel would allow me to make those long shots.
