I have read that the chamber on the factory barrel is not as good as it should be. It was sugested that a 357 Mag barrel be re-chambered to 357Max. Any truth to this or not. If it is a good idea who can best do the re-chamber?

Hi old coach, I just sent a 357 mag barrel to david white for rechamber last monday. precisionrifleworks.net

He will cut a tight throat for the max. he does a lot of other services for t/c barrels also. He is well recommended by that guy in grants pass oregon known as mike.

email is the best way. he doesn't have a phone in his shop. he gets a lot more work done this way. 7bru

This is not always the case. I bought a used S.S. contender barrel in 357 mag at a gun show. I talked the guy way down because there is a slight ring in the chamber where 38 specials case mouth would sit. I bought this barel thinking I would make it into a 357/44 B&D but I made the mistake of shooting it before I sent it out. This barrel is one of the best shooting barrels I have ever owned.
I haven't shot this barrel in several years so I do not remenber the group size I do know it loved my 158 gr cast bullets.

I think it was also said by the same people that the T/C barrels are "luck of the draw". I've only had one I wasn't satisfied with, all the others ranged from OK to fantastic.
After trying several calibers, and deciding which one was "it", I ordered a custom from Bullberry. I had already had a custom rechamber done and wasn't too happy with that method, it was an extra $40 over the cost of barrel + rechamber + extra shipping (rechamber/custom) for the Bullberry and it was stainless steel to boot.

I got my 357 max rechamber back in one week. shipped last monday and just opened the box. everything looks good.

now to see if it will shoot as good as it looks. 7BRU

Another option might be the .357 DW..since lies between the .357 mag and the .357 Max. Starline makes brass, you can use your .357 dies.I got data from the old Dan Wesson website, but since they have been bought by CZ..one might have google it..
