Sticker shock
« on: March 11, 2006, 12:20:49 PM »
I was in the local gunshop yesterday and checked prices of powder. I was kinda shocked to see a one pound can of WW 230 for $27.95. The wind is blowing again today so I decided to straighten the loading bench and take inventory. I found a three pound keg of WW 230 with the price sticker still on it. I bought it in '79 for $12.95. Also found a can of Hi Skor 700 that cost $3.99.

Looks like the guy wanted to get his haz mat fee back off the first pound.
I like to brows but I think I'm gonna buddy-up with some others and start buying direct, in bulk.  If I remember, you can get 50lbs of mixed "stuff" for one $20 fee.  Even at that however, the mail order folk's prices work out to about $16-$18 a pound when its all said and done.

Seems like the excuse that I have been hearing. :?  :?  :?
I come from an Industrial background and know that Hazmat can mean additional paperwork to go along with the permits but dont know the extent of it for powder sales.

Hummm....

One of my distributors charges a flat fee of $30 to ship 100 pounds of powder...and that includes the "hazmat" and freight charge.  In addition, I can add another 100 pounds of other goodies and there is no extra charge for freight.

If this guy has a gun shop, he most definately is not paying hazmat fees like consumers do.  ($20 for every 65 pounds)

Now, I just gotta ask this...are you sure it was W-230 and not W-231 powder?
