new 2 me molds
« on: February 09, 2006, 04:59:10 PM »
I got some molds from a friend and decided to cast some  bullets with a couple. A 280 mold that drops a 284 dia. 112 grain Loverin style and a 30 cal Lee that drops a 115 RN .Both are gas checked.I am thinking the 280 would be good for the 7tc/u.I am not sure what to do with the 30 cal bullet.Seems a little light for the 30/30 and 30-06.I cast them from 50/50 WW and linotype.Any suggestions on powder and charge weights would be helpfull.   TIA

jhalcot:  that bullet is used as a plinker in the 06.  My old Lyman manual shows loads using Unique, 2400 and IMR 4227, with velocities from 1400 - 2000'/sec.  The accuracy load listed is 12 gns of Unique for 1778'/sec.  HTH.  Mikey.

thanks Mikey! I was looking at my Lone eagle in 308 and thinking "THERE'S a place for that bullet"!.I forgot how long it takes to cast 100 bullets with a single cavity mold!
