Just shot my new a-bolt 338. Great shooter, it shot moa out of the box with 200 grain silvertips. Recoil was not what I expected, alot less than my 300 wby. Is this due to the 300's faster recoil velocity?

I have an A-bolt 338 Win Mag also. It is a great shooter.  :D

The Weatherby burns about 10% more powder than the .338 with equal bullet weights, so it has more recoil energy.  Stock shape and rifle weight also have a lot to do with felt recoil.

It's an outstanding cartridge, and more capable than it's size would indicate.  As to recoil, you won't have a true indication until you load up some heavier bullets with a good stout loads.
