I'm An Addict Now I Guess!
« on: April 10, 2003, 05:00:13 AM »
I bought a NEF .17 HMR last Fall. I bought a Taurus .17 HMR revolver in February. I went by my gun shop yesterday and put down $$$ on a Savage model 93 in .17 HMR!
I've yet to come up with a justifiable reason for owning so many .17s!
They're just FUN dang it!
And those CUTE little cartridges are just irresistable especially now that they come in red AND green!
I also got me some GOLD ones! CCI has theirs out now in these parts. The CCI's don't have a polymer tip. Another cool color would sure jazz up my range bag though!
How does the round perform without the polymer tip? Am I right in thinking it will expand more with less fragmentation, and penetrate further?

I would hate to see what would happen if I shot a high dollar .17! I just don't see how they can shoot any better than my little budget rat guns!

Hey, how's the accuracy on that NEF?  I am thinking of getting one, but I don't want to waste money on a gun that won't hit at 150 yards.  Also, what magnification of scope do you have on it?  Does it allow you to see your shots at the ranges you shoot?  Thanks for any input!

I really like my NEF! Trigger is sloppy but I can live with it!
I have a cheap Simmons 3x9 so I can't really see my shots if they're on paper...bad eyes. However, I can see exploding pigeons out to 100 yards very clearly!
I put a "Survivor" stock on it! Handles like a dream! I'm trying to tinker with some sort of weight addition in the storage compartment in the butt stock. It's a little barrel heavy when shooting off-hand.
Do I want multiple shots? Yep, thats why I'm getting a Savage too!

I shot some of the CCIs and the Remingtons today from my 14" contender. The Remingtons shot pretty much the same point of impact as the Hornady, but the groups were not quite as good. Still shot about an inch at 100 meters. The CCIs shot about 3/4" left and groups opened up to about 1-1/2". Still not bad. The CCIs seemed to be a little hotter than the others. Of course this is just one gun.   KN

I just bought one of the CZ's in 17 HRM and scoped it up yesterday and went straight to the range with it. I am very impressed! I live in Wyoming and as usual, it was windy, but the wind didn't affect my groups at 100 yards. I was getting sub-MOA right off the bat. No jams, no problems whatsoever. Can't wait to see what it will do on prarie dogs. And the price was good too.  Haven't been able to say that for a long time.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

It will be lethal, what scope did you choose? Out here we have ground squirrels, some of the long shots are hard to believe. Prarie dogs must be the same type of varmint, digging the hell out of everything. DPete in Ca.

I put a Burris Fullfield 3X9 on it. I have only fired it at paper so far but can't wait to go out and try it on the dogs.
