which dies?
« on: February 06, 2006, 12:00:07 PM »
I have reloaded for sevral years and only used rcbs dies I was wondering  if there are any better dies for reloading the encore with? I have heard that lee dies are one of the best and accurate even thou there so cheap. I well reload for a 270win but have to get new dies sold my old ones. I have reloaded for this cartridge before and was getting .5" groups out of my savage110 with both 130gr w/4831sc and 90gr w/varget.

I would hardly say the Lee dies are better than others. I have several sets and can't really complain about them but I prefere the Hornady New Dimention dies myself. I like the floating bullet bushing they use to keep the bullet straight while seating.   KN

Since the Lee's are indeed fairly inexpensive, go ahead and get the ones w/ the factory crimp die w/ em.. they work. I  also like the hornady seater [especially w/ the micro adjustment] You can get them seperately and also get the caliber specific sliding sleeve and seating stems... so 1 die serves all for me...Just like the the lyman stepped expander for cast bullets.  Good luck in your decision making process....   MV

I've owned and used about every brand in existance over the years, I guess.  Never really found a favorite though.  I share the foundness of Hornaday's seating die.  Most recently I've been getting very good results with Lee's collet sizing dies.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt

I've long been an RCBS fan...good quality die sets and a good warranty.  When it was time to get a die set for the .375 Win., I found a Redding set cheaper than the RCBS, so decided to try it.  I've been very pleased with the set, and will probably buy another Redding some day.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)

I used to use only RCBS but I've come to prefer the Hornady over all others and I love the Micro-Just Seater attachment. All of my bullet seaters have it now.

I have never had a problem with RCBS dies they always make good ammo, I like Hornady dies too, but if I can get them I will buy Bonanza every time. I have had a very bad die set from Redding and was not pleased with their customer service concerning a powder measure. Havn't thought much about Lee dies even though I have a few sets.
Just my view of the die situation.

RCBS is very good, but one word: Redding.

I have found that for convenience (no lubing, minimum trimming) and accuracy that the Lee collet neck size die makes my Contender happy.

Anyone that is reloading a .22Hornet REALLY needs to try a Lee collet neck size die.  Honest!
