10" 45-410 sight elevation adjusment
« on: February 01, 2006, 04:25:01 PM »
I have a 10" 45-410 barrel that I was attempting to shoot clay birds with the other day ( :-D ). After about ten shots and only barely breaking two birds, I threw a few clay birds on the ground at about 20 yards (there were plenty of unbroken ones lyin around) and I shot at them.

Well, the shot pattern showed it was shootin left and low of the point of aim.

So, I got the windage corrected easy enough, but to get the vertical to hit, I have to completely cover the target. I don't like to shoot that way...I like to bead the target when I pull the trigger.

So, I either have to raise the rear sight (I was considering inserting a milled piece of brass on the back of the vent rib), or lower the front sight. Lowering the front seems a bit complex as this would require fileing the front part of the vent rib (after removing it from the barrel) but the rib is machined to follow the contour of the barrel.

So, after all of my babbling....does anyone have an idea or has anyone ever fixed or messed with this?

Thanks

Dave.

Well, I finallly had a chance to look at the rib on the 10" barrel. There are 3 screws on this rib. One in the front and two in the back. None of these screws are for the adjustments of the sight.

The front sight is adjustable via a fine thread and locktight, however the front sight is already adjusted down as far as it will go.

So, I think instead of filing the front (I hate to start shavin factory metal) I will just insert some well crafted brass under the rear of the rib. This will raise the back sight and give me the same effect without removing any factory metal. I just need to get longer screws for the rear.

Huh   [sitting here looking perplexed] The two screws at the rear [breach] of my barrel seem to hold the rib on. the front screw [in front of the blade on the muzzel end] rotates the blade a considerable distance up and down.. Sorry for the confusion if yours is different.   MV
