Light Magnums
« on: March 20, 2003, 04:39:47 PM »
I own a T/C Encore pistol in 7mm/08 with a 15" barrel and have only shot "normal" factory loads with 140 grain bullets.  I have the opportunity to buy light magnums in the same 140 grain load but question if they would be safe to shoot with the pistol. Would like to hear other opinions or experiences using this cartridge before I buy any.

Old hunter,
The light magnums produce no more than SAAMI standard pressures. They should be safely usable in your weapon.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

havn't shot em, but i agree. no reason they would not be safe.
let us know how all those factory numbers do with accuracy, etc.
all i've shot is rem. 120gr hp's, which shot 1 1/2"-3" groups at 100. now my reload of 120gr nosler bt's and h4895 powder shot 5 less than 1 1/2" @100. they seemed more consistent. :D

25-06 light magnums

The only light magnums I have tried personally are the 117 grain 25-06 I was pleasantly surprised at 7/8 to 1 " groups consistantly. This is the most accurate factory load I have ever shot in any caliber. The firearm was a Ruger 77 about 20 years old but rarely fired. The load dropped a mule deer buck in it's tracks at just over 200 yards. I bought 3 boxes with the same lot number I was so impressed. A relative shoots the 165 grain light mags in his .308 Encore pistol. Hasn't connected with game yet.
