.17 Mach 2
« Reply #60 on: June 17, 2005, 04:48:56 PM »
I would have to say the .17 mach 2 is by far my favorite rimfire round. I recently bought a sporter handi rifle.  Any of you guys out there that have not shot this neat little round need to give it a try. At first I truly thought it would be a worthless round only good for rabbit and prarie dogs, but this weekend I have changed my mind. I took 1 shot at a 50lb ferral hog straight to the head, and down he went. The round proceeded to go through the skull out the back of the neck into the shoulder and through it to the ground. I could not belive how strong this little bullet is. I tried 2 more tests. Then I proceeded to fire it a a concrete block. Went slam through it. Then we tried into some wood. The depth was unbelievable. It went atleast 6 inches into the wood and belive it or not the bullet really kept 95% of its form. Ontop of it all the ammo is cheap. By far this little round is far superior to any in its class.[/url]

What do you mean? The bullet hole was nice, small, and very little bleeding around the wound. Top it off I didnt find one piece of fragment in the meat.

It was a joke, back in the old days of the newfangled microwaves they said all the good things they did and some one came up with the slogan does it brown the food as some one made one that did since the others did not and they used that in their ad campaign.

I guess I'm lucky to have the three I'd pick....!

1) EAA Biathlon basic w/4x-12x Bushnell

2) Ruger 10/22 stainless w/4x Weaver

3) Marlin 39A w/Williams receiver sight

Can't do better than that! Just the ticket for me.

Greetings!

I would choose:

Ruger 77/22 All-Weather in .22LR
Ruger 10/22 All-Weather in .22LR
Browning Buckmark Pistol

If someone else was paying for them, I'd replace the Browning Buckmark with a Sigarms Mosquito in .22LR.

Best wishes,
Bawko

I must admit, I've owned a few 'budget' and 'junk' guns in my time, mostly to 'save' on spending, which has surely cost me more in the long run.
A bit of advice from David Tubb comes to mind;
"Buy the best gear that you can afford !"
My advice would add; 'that you can't afford'
I'm not a fan of semi-auto's, so no Ruger 10/22's on my list.
Pumps and levers are fun, but also not on my list for serious shooting.
The old Winchester 52 is legendary, as are some of the older Remingtons, and the 40-X.
Sako, Cooper and Kimber are up there,
and the new Savage 'sleeved' FV Mark-II's and Model 93's look good,
but my personal preference would be;

1. Anschutz MS54 for heavy silhouette/target work
2. Anschutz 1712FWT (fibreglass stock/shorter barrel) for Hunter Silhouette (also a good hunting rig)
3. Anschutz 1710D De Luxe sporter with Walnut rollover comb stock as a heavier sporting rig.
(For a light hunting rig, the Sako finnfire would be an alternative)

I would say that what I have now is what I would choose.

1)Winchester mod.67A...(little short single shot that used to belong to my grandpa when he was alive...used it for coon hunting, and it still drops the coons just as dead as when he was alive)
2)Marlin 880sq...first 22 that I ever bought with the help of my parents, still drops squirrels on almost every squeeze of the trigger
3)Ruger mkII competition target model...this one was a bit of a on-going process as I went through  3-4 different handguns to find this one, I usually have it with me hunting/bumming in the woods, and has accounted for its share of game in the short time that I've had it.

The 10/22 and the Marlin 60 get my vote.  I'd have anything but the Remington 597.  JUNK!!!!!!!  Remington couldn't fix mine.   I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.
