Raptor Arms Comapny???
« on: August 15, 2003, 04:14:24 AM »
Has anyone ever heard of Raptor Arms company. The only gun that I have seen from them are on a gun broker auction site. They are a decent looking rifle, synthetic stock and stainlesse barrel and action. I have yet to find anyone that have shot one or owned one. They are realatively cheap and that makes me leary. They come in several calibers .243-7 mag. Please let me know if you have heard of them. Their website offers nothing but their address.

Dave:  The blue book shows them new in 1997 and 100% on a blue one is $230 down to 60% at $130 also made a delux model checked wood add about $35 for 100% and $10 for the 60% one, thats all they show other than the calibers they came in. :D   JIM   PS keep in touch and take care of yourself.  Jim

IK,

I too have never heard about this company.  I am a little leary about Raptor not having a website.  Perhaps you can email the seller on gunbroker and ask him/her?

Raptor didn't last long. Never really got off the ground. They were supposed to be gonna produce a very economical low priced high quality bolt action rifle that was gonna put a serious hurt on the big boys. All the writer reviews of them were raves about the pre production rifles.

BUT I don't think the production versions were up to the same standards as the hand made pre production rifles all the writers got their hands on. They went belly up soon after opening the doors.

My recommendation is to get a R700 ADL for another $100 at most and never look back.

I ordered on about 4 years ago.  It got to my dealer and we immediatly sent it back what a POS.  When you opened the action the bolt would move up and down or side to side about an inch, it felt like it would fall out.  The finish looked like latex paint, etc..  At the time I was looking for an inexpensive rifle and ended up buying a walmart special model 70 and was much more pleased for spending the additional 75 bucks.  Now that I have that I love hunting I have since traded the wally world rifle and own a couple of CRF stainless M70s and have never looked back.

There was a review in Gun Tests http://www.gun-tests.com/ a couple of years ago.  They do not get their guns from the manufacturer.  They buy them just like everyone else and test them.

Raptors are cheap guns $200-$300 NIB.  The reason they are not cheap is because they are not nicely finished, but are very functional.  Kind of like a slighly cheaper Savage.  I believe they were shooting a 30-06 and getting 2-3" groups.

You can look up old articles on Gun Tests website, but will only be able to see a very small snip-it of the original article without purchasing it.
