Replacement Front Sight Blade for M97
« on: February 23, 2006, 03:45:20 PM »
Anyone know of an aftermarket source for a narrower front sight blade for the M97.  I have a 4 1/4" .45 and I can't get enough light on both sides of the front sight.  Freedom Arms offers replacement blades that are different heights, but not widths.

TIA

Paul

I do not know of any for sure but you might give Dave Clements a call as he makes a front sight base/blade combo very similar to the FA one. Or have a local 'smith or machine shop throw yours on a surface ginder and remove some from each side and reblue.

Boxhead,

Thanks, I'll check with Clements.  I emailed Stroh -- his won't work.

While we are on the subject of the M97 in .45 Colt, what bullets are you using  in yours?  The short cyl kind of limits choices.  Was looking for a a commercial source of SWCs that can be crimped in the crimp grove and not extend beyond the cyl face.

Lloyd suggested crimping over the front drive band, and reducing the load to accomodate the reduced case volume.  I loaded a couple of these, and they just didn't look right to me.

TIA,

Paul

While I have not tried them since I am temporarily living away from my loading stuff, I will try these:

To date I have only used the 250 gr XTP.
