Savage Smokeless Results
« on: February 28, 2006, 04:13:05 AM »
I posted this on a few other forums and saw some asking about a smokeless around here, so I thought I might post it.

I purchased a Savage 10ML-II last month, and I finally got around to the range with it today.

I can honestly say I was 100% pleased with the gun, it was everything I hoped it would be. I shot 11 rounds and never had to run a swab while I was using sabots. Being smokeless thier was absolutely no fouling or residue anywhere. I suppose I could shoot it forever without cleaning it or even running a swab through it. Furthermore, I don't have to worry about breaking it down tonight I can simply put it away.

I was able to get a tight group at 100 yards, shooting .452 Hornady XTP/HP and MMP Sabots with 41 grains (by volume) of Accurate 5744. Here is my target:

Pretty decent 4 shot group at 100 yards, the one outlier I pulled.

I really liked this gun and can't wait to hunt with it. It didn't kick near as much as I expected, in fact thier was very little recoil.

I can honestly say the first time you shoot one, you fill like something is all wrong. After years of stuffing ONLY smokefull powder down a barrel, this goes against everything you have been taught. BUT if you love inlining and want to buy top of the line, I would DEFINETLY say this gun is for you. Its innovative and its FUN.

I truly believe it will only be a matter of time before Savage starts cutting into muzzleloading profits big time, and other companies will have little choice but to follow suit. This gun has been out for a while but it is just now starting to get serious attention. I just hope it happens soon, cuz as soon as T/C comes out with one of these babies I'm gonna be all over it.

I too bought one, and have only shot 20 shots. but 9 of the shots were at 200yds. 3 -3shot groups, and the largest was 2 1/4" x 1 7/8". my powder is IMR 4895. and a Hornady 250 sst.

I put a 3 x 12 redfield on it and glass bedded the action.
