Just bought a model 14 Dan Wesson. Was curious about when these were manufactured, and any other info available. Thanks!

First off, welcome to the forum!

Dan wessons have been made in several places, with the current models being made in Norwich, NY.  Some feel like the Monson, MA models are best, but few of us have duplicates from different places to compare with.

After CZ-USA bought out Dan Wesson, production of the revolvers ceased, but they have recently brought out a couple of models of .445 Supermag revolvers.

They are supposed to be able to do repairs on the older models and will send an owner's manual if you call and ask them.

As you have probably noticed, the CZ forum isn't very fast at responding.

I have a DW model 15 that I ran across in a pawn shop back just before Christmas.  I searched high and low for serial number records, but they don't exist.   Seems that every time DW changed hands, the records were confiscated by BATF, never to be seen again.

My particular piece has a 5 digit serial number that starts with 76, and by piecing together tidbits from here and there, was able to "guestimate" that it was made about 1974, give or take a year.

As stated earlier, if you call DW, they are pretty helpful.  Ordered the new style barrel tools, and they shipped them out quick.  They will send you an owners manual, but I was able to find one on the net, and just printed it out.

Hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

Kimigirl,

I think you'll find very little information on the DOB for your M14.  The story goes like this, since the company has gone under several times, there aren't any records for the older guns.

It actually makes little difference when it was made, since they aren't collectable, yet.  I believe the Monson's were made prior to 1992 or so.

I love it so far. It shoots really accurate, and is really fun to take to the range.  :P

I'm not really interested in collectible worth, mainly I'm just trying to get a bit of background on my gun. It's funny because before I went, all I could think about was the semi-auto that I wanted to buy. But ever since I bought them, all I can think about is shooting the DW some more.

Kimigirl,

I hope you don't think I was being abrupt about the DOB.  It's just a fact that I suppose we'll have to live with.  I haven't seen much rhyme or reason to Dan Wesson's serial numbers, so that isn't even a help.

After shooting the DW revolvers, it's hard to get excited over a bottom feeder!  Of course, I have always leaned toward revolvers and now I'm leaning toward DWs more all the time.

Kimigirl,
As Paul has correctly pointed out, there are no accurate records to be had as far as dates on Dan Wesson guns.

The serial number won't help much, but the place of manufacture will give you some idea of a date.  Of course if the serial number is very low, it was made closer to the beginning date than the ending date for that particular place.  Dan Wessons were made in the following places and dates.

1971 - 1992 Monson, MA
1992 - 1995 Palmer, MA
1997 - Present Norwich, NY

Hope that is helpful.

Kimigirl,

Welcome to the Fourmn... I too have a model 14. I bought it used off the net for 180 bucks. It was in need of a bit of work.. It would not fire all the time.. abouth 50/50.. The main spring was weak.. ordered a new one from Numrich Gun Parts(less than 15 bucks) ,, problem solved. It also had a 6 inch vent rib barrell with a sight that was just to high.. I put a Nikon Monach 2XEER scope and removed the front sight.. WOW.. What a great gun this old babe turned out to be. No matter what gun I take to the range.. I always bring her with me. and also my model 15.. I would also like to know exactly when it was produced, but that seems like a never ending story.. I even have a friend that worked in Monson Mass,, Dan Wesson.. but is of lillte help..  Oh ,, well,, what you got is Dan Wesson Fever"" don't fight it.. Embrace it.!.. they are underated,, mostly under priced. and shoot great.. lets keep it to our self.. Take care.. and shoot alot..."Ammo is Dangerous,, so I shoot it up.. and they just make more! I am trying to stay ahead...
