My favorite reload is a 300gr/gascheck cast lead bullet powered by 18gr of Accurate #9. About the same velocity.

I would grab 5 or so gallon jugs filled with water and test it a 50yds.
That should instill a little confidence in the load.

tannoose - that load should get the job done.  I would also go with swampthing's suggestion to practice with that load and see what it will do for you.  I know that particular load load will bust right on through heavy bone structure and should perform satisfacorily on those bear.  HTH.  Mikey.

Thanks for your replys guys i cant wait to give it a try i just got my 10 1/2" barrel back on as i had stopped using the hand gun for hunting and had a 4/58 on there for carry. and i missed the handgun hunt so i decided to use the longer barrel , for me the longer is easier to shoot (better groups). I dont use a scope i have a peep sisht on it and she used to be able to hit coke cans all day long at 100 yds (with 240's) Thanks again Tanoose
