What to use for a stock finish?
« on: February 14, 2006, 09:49:40 AM »
Any recomendation on products to finish a wood stock.  I like the look of the satin oil finishes and was wondering if there might be something new on the market?

I have not found an easy way to put a nice oil finish on a stock. Usually it is very time consuming.

I've a combination of low gloss tung oil and linseed oil work best. This must be applied sparingly and rubbed until if feels like your hand is going to catch on fire. This must be then allowed to dry completely ( no tackeness). Then gone over very lightly with 000 steel wool, and repeat. If patient and persistent you will end up with a quality finish!
