Newbie primer question for my Hornet
« on: February 15, 2006, 11:19:56 AM »
Hey all, can you help a newbie out?  Im going start reloading for my hornet.  I bought some lil' gun and some 45g hp rems.  When I look in the Hodgdon manual it calls for winchester small rifle primers.  I spaced it and bought CCI small rifle.  Am I correct in assuming that they are "interchangeable"?  I am obviously going to start back 10% and work up.  I use a lee priming tool and they recommend CCI and I never gave it a thought.  Am I ok or should I get Winchesters? ---thanks in advance!

You will be ok. The CCI's are just a tad hotter than Winchesters. I would start at the bottom end of the load data.

Yup, they will work fine as the Prof. said, just start at the starting load. If you change brands of primers to something different than the CCI you will have to go back and rework your loads. :D

thanks guys, I had assumed it was ok as long as I started and worked up.  Nice to have a "sanity check" from guys that know!
