458 Lott or 416 Rigby
« on: February 16, 2006, 02:40:44 PM »
Hey all,

Planning a hunt to Africa with my Dad in a year....(may be our last hunt together)...anyhoo... Buffalo would be the largest species pursued.  I'm taking my Model 70 375 Wthby as a "General Purpose" rifle and am torn between the 416 Rigby and the 458 Lott. This will be a Ruger #1 either way...that's been decided. (Used them on the big bears while in Alaska) I've shot them both, and accuracy is there with both.  Just need to decide which to leave in the safe.  Checking out ballistics...a 400 grain out of the Rigby can be boosted to 2600 fps...almost Wthby velocity. Makes it flatter shooting than 375 H&H. Just having a hard time figuring out what I can expect from the Lott. Recoil's not an issue for me...it is for Dad though...lol Anyway, any suggestions / information offered would be greatly appreciated!!
