anyone try this?
« on: February 20, 2006, 03:49:38 PM »
I just got the Idea to size some of my 405 gr flat point 45-70 bullets down to 452. and loaded one with out any powder in a 45 long colt case this gave me an OAl of somehting like 1.8240.
I am thinking about using something like 8.5 gr of 296 under this bullet and shoot it out of my encore 45-410 This would be about 1/2 the starting load for the 300 gr bullets.

What do you guys and gals think?

You're treading dangerous territory but it can be done.  First off, I'm pretty sure you've passed the effectiveness of the 45 Colt case with that heavy of a bullet.   I'd go with another powder, W 296 and H 110 need to fill the case, other wise you'll get erratic ignition.
