Unprimed Brass Sources
« on: March 05, 2003, 07:16:53 AM »
Hey Guys!
I'm searching for good source(s) for new, unprimed brass for the following calibers:
6.5x55 Mauser
.300 Savage
.30-06 Springfield

Do you have brand-name recommendations?  By the way, since .300 Savage brass is getting difficult to locate, can you tell me what to use that will be alright to re-size...... .308 cases?  TIA

Gee...as far as I know Winchester is the only company currently making all three calibers you mentioned.  Remington, Lapua and Norma do not have the .300 Savage...

Thanks Steve and Marsh!  Funny, Remington still sells factory loads in 150 and 180 grain.....Go figure!
Steve, do you know what brass I can reform to get .300 Savage cases, and what the procedure is?  I thought it was .308.

SavageT,

For resizing to .300 Savage, the .308 Winchester comes closest to being ideal.

One-pass thru the .300 Savage sizing die and it's formed.

Trim to length, and you are done!

savageT,

Got a source for ya, my dad has a 99. But he only burns up 2 or 3 shells a year  :)   May take a couple years to get a box. It really depends on how many deer he wants to drag out of the woods.

.300 Savage is one heck of a good deer round. My dad bought the rifle the year I was born (1962) and has killed many many deer with it. It was a rite of passage the day I shot it when I was 13.

savageT,

The best source for most the more uncommon brass that was made made in this country at one time or another (.358, 32-20,etc.), but dropped for reasons unknown, is Graff & Sons, Inc.   Just checked their web site and they had all the brass you listed either in Remington or Winchester.

Other companies I order from include: Midway and Cabelas.  In any case, between Graff & Sons, Midway, and Cabela's you should find what you are looking for.  It seems to me that Graff & Sons always has the widest selection of reloading brass --and a good supply of it.

I have good luck with both Winchester and Remington Brass in bulk from all these companies.  However I only reload the '06, 338 and .458 rifle cartridge cases.  Hope this helps......Balto

Just a quick note that Widener's Reloading and Shooting Supply has always took good care of me.  They seem to stock large amounts of the Winchester "seasonal" run brass that always is "here today and gone tomarrow" at other destributors.

I don't have their URL handy but you can find them easy enough on a search.

Hope this helps,
-Matt

MidSouth carried most everything in current production and has about the best prices.

Jeff Bartlett has always done me good on once fired military.

I'm cheap. I don't buy no commercial brass I can form from GI.
