Remington 742 Woodsmaster Carbine(question)

After testing our newly aquired 742 in 30-06, we are breaking it down to clean it and do some spiffing up to it.
Should there be a bolt buffer at the end of the reciever to protect it? I did not see one. Thanks for any help.

The 742 doesn't use a buffer.. The old Remington M11 shotgun had a buffer that was sometimes left out, especially after a reblue but a lawsuit alleged that a damgerous practice and reputable snith's never leave out parts.. The 742 really needs the bolt head cam slots lubed with a good high pressure grease. Oils won't stay put and excessive wear at this point can destroy one of these rifles.
