I want my 4 yr. old grandson to start shooting this summer. I have looked at the Chipmunk and the Cricket 22 rifles as starter rifle. I plan to start with CB loads ( no noise) then work up to shorts then LR. I need advice on which gun to buy. Also my wife says 4 is too young to start him shooting, what do you think?

Both of my son's (now 9 & 11) started shooting BB guns at that age and progressed to a .22 after a couple of years.  Both are now close to qualifying as "Expert" on the NRA Light Rifle (Prone) Qualification course.  I picked up a Marlin 915Y and mounted a Nikon Prostaff 4x on it that they now shoot.  CZ also makes a nice youth model .22, but both it and the Marlin are a slight bit larger than the Chipmunk.  The Chipmunk may be a better fit for the younger guys.  I personally don't think it's too early as long as you can keep him following good safe gun handling practices.   Your judgement and common sense will tell you what he is capable of at any given age.  Of course once you get him his first rifle, you are now obligated to keep him upgraded to the next one when the time comes.....and the next one and next one.......and.....
