Need help, got patch stuck in bore...
« on: February 23, 2006, 11:25:49 AM »
I was cleaning my 22-250 and when I was pulling a patch from the chamber to the muzzle the plastic patch holder broke. I tried to push it on through but no luck. Can any one suggest a way to get the patch out without scratching the bore?

I've had great success removing stuck patches, etc. by putting oil into the bore and letting the oil do its thing. The patch will absorb the oil and be easier to push through the bore. Just make sure to use lots of oil before you start to push things.  MI VHNTR

I've had luck using the oil then compressed air. The air greatly lessens possiblity of damaging the bore.

If it were mine, I'd get me a piece of brass rod, and carefully slide it up against the patch and/or patch holder that broke if it is still stuck in the bore, and gently tap it out from the breech end of the gun with a small hammer or block of wood.  The brass is soft and should not hurt the bore at all. I have used this method more than once myself with 100% good results.

The other methods also sound good to try also.  This is just a way to do it if you have it stuck pretty good.

Just like Teddy Roosevelt said, "Walk soft and carry a BIG stick"  Preferably one with a big bore. If it doesn't Thump your shoulder or wrist when ya pull the trigger, it won't Thump what you're shootin at either.
