G2 vs Old Contender price values
« on: February 27, 2006, 04:23:44 PM »
Now that the G2 is out in stainless and blue ones are everywhere will the value of the old style go down? Sellers are still trying to get $2-300 for old style frames while new G2s in blue are $2-250.

There are folks that prefer the old style to the G-2, so my guess is that old style Contenders will hold their value rather well.  No new ones will be built.

Where does this data come from?  Who says they are having trouble?

30HARRET,
I was at the shot shot and saw 2 stainless G2 pistols. They told me there that they were being shipped right away. Rep said the trigger guards were made the week before. they also had composite grip and forearm. The new 2006 cataloge has both pistol and rifles in stainless with composite stocks.

I'm with Keith L on thinking the original frames should hold their value. You mentioned seeing used frames for $200-300. I usually only see frames with a barrel and that's for around $325-350. Honestly I can't see them going any cheaper than that. What would be a reason for the price to drop? Sure the new frames do have some plusses... as do the old ones.

I talked to a person on an other forum and he  had 10 used frames for sale and no bites. I have both the old and new G2 and if I was a new buyer would go to the G2 over the old style. There are some upgrades and advantages with the new safety-cocking system. For new shooters the G2 is more user friendly.  The old style may have a sentimental or collector value. From the factory all the new barrels and stocks are leaning towards the G2 and some are have trouble with old barrels on new frames.

And the old style frame has a lot better trigger than the G2 (I'm assuming the G2 is similiar to an Encore trigger since the design is the same.  I've owned an Encore but not a G2.)

I won't part with my two "old" style frames.

I keep hearing that G2 triggers aren't as good as the old ones, but you can't prove it by me.  I have one original with a good trigger, and two G2s that came from the factory with light, crisp triggers as good as the original.  I can't believe I got the only good ones.

My thinking here is that with the price I'm seeing these used pistols, one is only paying $200-$225 for the frame portion of the deal anyways. Could this possibly fall another $25-50? Possibly. Would that be enough for me to wait longer if I needed another frame? No. Heck, it costs me $10-15 just in gas for my truck to go have a look!

I don't care how much folks like the new frame over the old, I just don't see the price really going down that much. $100 T/C frames? Maybe at a pawn shop or from a friend but at a typical price at a brick-and-mortar gun shop I don't think so.

I think that the reason people are saying the old style has a better trigger is because it is so easy for anyone that can use a screwdriver and a file, to adjust their own trigger.

I would bet that most of the old style frames belong to silhouette shooters.   With any kind of target shooting, the trigger is a big part of accuracy.  The frame that I use for Hunters Pistol Silhouette is at 10 oz.  I know guys that have theirs lighter.  You can bang them around too, and they don't go off.

I origionally had both of my frames set at 10 oz but I had too many 357 max and 30-30 rounds go off before I was ready.  Nothing dangerous, but if it had been a deer, it would have missed.  I got a new spring and quit fileing it off at 2lb.  Now the 357 max and the 30-30 go off when I am ready and the trigger is still light enough for good accuracy.

I don't have a g2 and have no plans to get one in the near future so I can't really comment on how easy it is to do your own trigger work but I hear it is not near as easy.

You can only hit the target if the barrel is pointed in the right direction when the bullet leaves the barrel.

I looked into it in case I had to do it, and it is no big trick.  If you can do an old one you can do a new one.

We all have to use what we like. Me, I like them both and will keep them both.

As for $100 frames, don't hold your breath.  Unless you are going to take advantage of widows and orphans you better look it over well.
