What is the model number of my .357 magnum?
The Dan Wesson .357 Magnum CTG (stands for "cartridge") is a Small Frame Series revolver (has a removable sideplate on the left side of the frame beneath and behind the cylinder cavity).

15-2
If your revolver has an interchangeable barrel (barrel nut with 2 spanner slots visible from the muzzle end of the barrel), an interchangeable front sight blade (set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib), and a long, curved hammer spur, it is a model 15-2 if blued, 715-2 if stainless.

15
If it has a short, straight hammer spur it is a model 15 if blued, 715 if stainless.

14
If it has a fixed front sight blade (no set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) and an internal barrel nut, it is a model 14 if blued, 714 if stainless.

11
If it has a fixed front sight blade (no set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib), an "L" shaped barrel shroud and an external or internal barrel nut it is a model 11.

12
If it has an interchangeable front sight blade (set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) an "L" shaped barrel shroud and an external or internal barrel nut it is a model 12.

8
If it has a fixed front sight blade (no set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) and an internal barrel nut and will only fire .38 Special it is a model 8 if blued, 708 if stainless.

9
If it has an interchangeable front sight blade (set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) and an internal barrel nut and will only fire .38 Special it is a model 9 if blued, 709 if stainless.

FB15
If it has a fixed barrel (no barrel nut visible on the muzzle end of the barrel) it is a model FB15 if blued, FB715 if stainless.

pistol pack contents

A model 15 pack should have the plastic cse with plush lining, instruction book, brown envelope with barrel tool and feeler guage, DW patch for your shirt, belt buckle, extra grip, and 2", 4", 6 and 8" barrels.

Some of the model 14 packs (fixed sights) did not have 8" barrel or belt buckle.

Sorry...forgot about the sight inserts in the pistol pack.

Seems serial number data is not available anywhere because BATF has records due to company reorganizations. My Monson 15-2 serial number 905XX was produced in 1974, so yours was probably late 70s or thereabouts if it is a model 15-2.

I have a 15-2 serial number 1573XX that I think dates from early 80s or thereabouts.

Monson, MA 1970-1992
Palmer, MA 1992-95
